Musician Pharrell Williams wants federal probe into police shooting of cousin

The Grammy winner made the call in an Instagram post after attending his cousin'south funeral. His cousin, Donovan Lynch, was fatally shot by constabulary on Mar 27.

Grammy honor-winning musician Pharrell Williams has chosen for a federal investigation into the fatal law shooting of his cousin forth the Virginia declension.

Williams made the call in an Instagram postal service on Mon (April 5) afterwards attending his cousin's funeral in Virginia Embankment, where Williams grew up.

"I had to speak at my cousin's funeral, and was high-strung upwards with emotions," he wrote on the social media mail service. "Too many unanswered Metropolis and State questions. Respectfully, I am calling for a Federal investigation. I besides humbly inquire that y'all all keep the family in prayer."

An electronic mail to the US Attorney'due south Office for the Eastern Commune of Virginia was not immediately returned.

Donovon Lynch, 25, was killed in the early morn hours of Mar 27 forth the city's popular oceanfront strip of hotels and restaurants presently after 2 other nearby shootings unleashed chaos. Constabulary said Lynch, a black human being, had a handgun and that it was recovered from the scene. But the officer's body camera had not been activated. The officeholder who killed Lynch is also black.

The city's constabulary section recently turned over the investigation into Lynch's death to the Virginia State Constabulary.

Lynch lived in Virginia Embankment. He was an offensive lineman for the Academy of Virginia'due south College at Wise during the 2022 and 2022 seasons and a 2022 graduate of the school.
